FLAGMAN'S SIGNALS
35. The following signals will be used by flagmen:
Day signals --
A red flag, Torpedoes and Fusees.
Night signals --
A red light, A white light, Torpedoes and Fusees.
36. Hand signals will be given to the engineer in acNcordance with the direction of movement of the train.
Example: Eastward Train --
Move east--Proceed (Rule 12c.)
Move west--Back up (Rule12d.)
Westward Train --
Move west--Proceed(Rule12c.)
Move east--Back up (Rule 12d.)
For movements on yard assignments or where direction of train is uncertain or in case of confusion of signals,
no movements will be made until train and engine crew have had an understanding regarding manner in which hand
signals are to be given.
Crews will be governed by the direction o~ movement in complying with Rule 16(a) and (c) when road passenger enginemen
are operating utility type Diesel engines, single or multiple, coupled to passenger cars.
When signals disappear while a train or engine is moving under the direction of hand signals, it must be regarded
as a stop signal.
